Who the Heck is Joe Fletcher?

Meet Joe Fletcher

JoeCoach Fletcher, a former pitcher with the New York Yankees and Montreal Expos organizations, has been training pitchers since the late 1980s with an outstanding track record of success. In his last six seasons, with three different college teams, he had 247 wins, 104 losses, an average team ERA of 4.55, three Conference Championships, two NCAA D-1 Regionals and an NCAA D-2 World Series 2nd place finish.

As the Pitching Coach at Michigan State University in ‘02, he helped the Spartans have one of their best seasons in recent history. They were in contention as one of the Big Ten’s best teams, finishing the season with a 38-19 overall record. The Spartans’ pitching staff’s Big Ten Team ERA was cut nearly in half in the ‘02 season as compared to their ‘00 and ‘01 seasons (from well over 8.00 to 4.32). Their overall ERA went from a 6.32 in 2001 to a 4.77 in 2002.

As pitching coach at Jacksonville University in Florida from 1999 to 2001, Fletch guided the Dolphin staff to the TAAC Championship in ‘99, receiving a bid into the NCAA Division I Regional in his first year. In his third season the Dolphins also received an at-large bid into the Florida State Regional. Nine Dolphin pitchers went on to pro ball since ‘99 including a 2nd and a 5th rounder.Joe2

In addition, he helped develop 2001 top prospect and 1st team All-American RHP Casey Shumaker into one of the nation’s top pitchers. Casey led the nation in NCAA D-1 strikeouts per IP as a sophomore, beating out Mark Prior of USC. As the pitching coach at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana from 1992 to 1997, Fletch guided the Pumas all the way to the NCAA Division II National Championship Game in 1996. The Pumas also won two conference championships and broke school records in wins for four consecutive years. Several of Fletch’s pitchers have gone on to do very well in college and professional baseball including Valparaiso, IN native LHP Jim Crowell, who has pitched in the big leagues with three different teams in the past five years. Jim was also a Triple A All-Star in his 2004 and 2005.
